Awards & Recognition received by University:
YCMOU honored with - ‘CoL Award of Institutional Excellence' (2019)
Commonwealth of Learning (CoL), the apex body of open and distance learning universities in the commonwealth countries has honored the Yashvantrao Chavhan Maharashtra Open University(YCMOU) of Nashik with an Award of Institutional Excellence. The CoL’s adjudication panel of experts appreciated YCMOU’s impressive record of reaching millions of students and fulfilling the promise of technology and open learning by taking learning opportunities to where students are located. The Award was conferred on YCMOU in the PCF9 Conference held at Edinburgh, Scotland. Vice Chancellor Prof. E. Vayunandan and Registrar Dr. Dinesh Bhonde accepted the award along with the YCMOU team in the special ceremony (Sep.-2019).
The citation appraises YCMOU for Application of modern technology in education for reaching the unreached, Innovative use of technology from students’ registration to certification, Setting goal for sustainable development, skill development and employability of the students and Maintaining consistency in the honest efforts since 2002 when the ‘excellence’ awarded to this university for the first time.
The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) is an intergovernmental organisation created by Commonwealth Heads of Government in 1987 to promote the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies. Hosted by the Government of Canada with headquarters in Burnaby, British Columbia, COL is the world’s only intergovernmental organisation solely concerned with the promotion and development of distance education and open learning. COL’s mission is to help governments, institutions and organisations expand the scale, efficiency and quality of learning by using appropriate open, distance and technology-based approaches.
The YCM Open University of India is noticeably Distinct, unconditionally dedicated to conveying higher education towards the huge community that is deprived of educational facilities and having established mark of greatness amongst educational institutions in India; the YCM Open University is identified as a role model in many sectors.

Awards given by YCMOU:
In order to encourage the budding talent in different forms of literature at the State level as well as with a view to giving recognition to the distinguished social contributions of certain individuals, the university has instituted the following awards that are given annually
Vishakha Kavya Puraskar:
The award named after the poetic composition of the noted poet laureate and winner of the prestigious Dnyanpeeth Award, Shri V.V. Shirwadkar (popularly known as ‘Tatyasaheb’) is given every year to the best three maiden poetic compositions. (click here for the rules)
Baburao Bagul Gaurav Puraskar:
In recognition of the noted contributions of Shri Baburao Bagul to the field of Marathi literature, an award has been instituted in his name and is given annually to the maiden story writing productions of a budding short-story writer. (click here for the rules)
Rukmini Puraskar:
This award is given to any woman who has made outstanding contributions in a given field, particularly in the area of Social Work. (click here for the rules)
Shramseva Puraskar:
This award is given to a woman who has provided noteworthy services to uplift the downtrodden and neglected class of women in an given area. (click here for the rules)
Dnyandeep Puraskar:

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Smruti Puraskar:
The award has been instituted by the university from the contributions of Shivaji Shikshan Sanstha, Amravati in order to honour the person or institute that has contributed innovatively to conventional education. (click here for the rules)
