‘MAHASWAYAM' is a ground-breaking digital initiative by the Maharashtra state government, developed as a dedicated portal for higher education. MAHASWAYAM, which draws inspiration from the central government's SWAYAM platform, provides a diverse array of online courses tailored to meet the unique educational requirements of Maharashtra's students. The portal aims to create an inclusive and accessible platform where students can pursue flexible learning opportunities while earning academic credits.

 In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP), MAHASWAYAM enables students to enroll in online courses, especially for minor subjects, and earn credits towards their final grades. This state-centric initiative ensures equitable access to quality education across Maharashtra, making higher education more adaptable to the evolving digital landscape.

 To ensure the success of MAHASWAYAM, the state government has formed a consortium of prominent state universities, including Yashvantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Savitribai Phule Pune University, University of Mumbai, Shivaji University Kolhapur, and SNDT Women's University. These institutions will collaborate to design courses, especially focusing on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), providing students with a well-rounded educational experience that bridges traditional and modern knowledge.

1. Comprehensive Access: Provide a state-centric online learning portal offering courses from Maharashtra's universities, ensuring accessibility for all students.
2. Inclusive Learning in Marathi: Offer all courses in Marathi, allowing students to learn in their mother tongue, making education more inclusive and understandable.
3. Collaboration and Partnership: Collaborate with leading state universities to design and contribute various courses.
4. Tailored for Maharashtra: Focus on the specific educational needs of Maharashtra, delivering relevant and high-quality programs for students.

To empower students across Maharashtra by offering an inclusive, accessible, and cutting-edge online platform that fosters the acquisition of both modern and traditional knowledge. MAHASWAYAM aims to provide flexible digital learning solutions that cater to the diverse educational needs of the state’s students.

Mission:
To embrace the evolving educational landscape by seamlessly integrating online learning into Maharashtra’s higher education system. MAHASWAYAM aspires to equip students with a holistic understanding of knowledge, enabling them to thrive in both local and global environments.

The Maharashtra government is emphasizing capacity building through collaborations with national educational platforms like NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning). Faculty members from other universities and course creators will receive training on developing MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) to ensure high-quality content delivery through MAHASWAYAM. These efforts will leverage the latest technological tools and pedagogical practices to create engaging and impactful courses.

Indian Knowledge System (IKS) course is currently in progress and it will be launched in 2025.
