Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University is the fifth Open University in India and the first in Maharashtra. This university was established on July 01, 1989 under the Maharashtra Government Legislature Act No. 20/1989. The University was recognized under Section 12/B of the University Grants Commission Act. University headquarters is in Nashik.
The concept of YCM Open University is based on 'lifelong learning, learning while working, skill-based education that will provide a basis for employment and professional.'
The evaluation method of the learners of the Open University shows its uniqueness in terms of their academic status, mental fitness, and performance. The number of people who want to pursue education outside the four walls using technology is increasing. The university currently has eight faculties and three academic departments working on the development and implementation of these programs. Of these two centers, the 'Evaluation Division' is working on educational development.
Looking at the history of the Evaluation Division, it seems that it has changed many times. The central government has recommended that evaluation departments be set up in the states and evaluation divisions should also be set up in universities. Later, after the established the evaluation division in the university.
The Evaluation Division has conducted four research projects for curriculum evaluation. Work is being done on developing the question bank, developing the evaluation method and the constitution table, creating question papers, corresponding with experts, creating training materials for examiners, reviewers and questioners, analyzing question papers, etc.
Centres in Evaluation Division
There is two centres’ working in Evaluation Division.
1. Centre for Learner Evaluation Technology (CLET)
The primary responsibility of this Centre is to develop course wise Question Banks for all the academic programs to serve as resource material for paper-setting. This involves training to content experts, editing of the Question Banks and their computerisation. Providing orientation to Paper-setters, Examiners and Moderators is another key function of this Centre. The Centre has already developed a computerised database of experts handling various evaluation-related tasks. There are nearly 2, 00,000 questions ready in the different Question Banks.
2. Programme Evaluation Research Centre (PERC)
Evaluation of programme is basic function of comprehensive research may detect the problems, issues, deficiency of academic programme which are run by various school/division of the Y.C. M. Open University. Programme Evaluation Research Centre’s main functions are developing the research design and strategies, developing standardised research tools, collection and analysing the data from collected various stakeholders of the university and to communicate the feedback to this university with reference to improvement and modifications in various aspects of academic programme. Near about seven programmes evaluation has been done.
