Framework of ‘Alumni Circle’

1. Background of the University

The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was established in July 1989 by Act XX- (1989) of the Maharashtra State Legislature. It is the Fifth Open University in the country. The jurisdiction of this university, originally for the State of Maharashtra, has now been extended beyond this State and the university can now operate anywhere across the globe. The YCMOU has been recognized under section 12 (B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. It is a member of various prestigious associations and bodies like the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada to name a few. The main aim of the YCMOU is to become a Mass Varsity and to make available to the common man, educational programmes that are of practical use in his day-to-day life and those that provide better prospects for the future. The University offers several offline programmes and has also embarked on a number of innovative online initiatives. The YCMOU has its headquarters at Nashik and provides support to its learners through study centres, which are spread all over the State of Maharashtra. 

2. Name of the Circle : The Circle shall be named as the YCMOU Alumni Circle

3. Office

The office of the Circle shall be located within the University campus. The Circle will thus operate from the campus.

4. Objectives of the Circle

4.1 To promote the advancement, interests, and welfare of YCMOU

4.2 To facilitate and further, strong collaboration amongst the scholars and institutions within and outside the Region.

4.3 To facilitate close link between the alumni of YCMOU and the other Universities.

4.4 To organize events and activities that would foster friendship and sharing of cultures within the Region.

4.5 To act as goodwill ambassadors of YCMOU within the region.

4.6 To provide academic and professional interaction and networking among the alumni and the present students.

4.7 To help alumni in their needs

4.8 To promote social and cultural activities of former and current students of the University.

4.9 To promote regional consciousness in the Region.

4.10 Facilitate YCMOU’s awareness in local, national, and international communities.

4.11 To create platform for honouring the alumni of YCMOU, who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields and have attained special recognition.

5. Membership of YCMOU Alumni Circle

5.1 Regular membership of the Circle would be open to all students who have obtained degrees from the YCMOU.

5.2 Advisory membership of the YCMOU Alumni Circle will be offered to

Present and past faculty members and senior administrative functionaries of the University, Past Students further enrolled in other universities, Other Distinguished persons in the society.

6. Membership is free.

All the past students shall be allowed to become member through the online registration provided in the website ycmou.ac.in

7. Management: The Alumni enrolment and exchange of Alumni views, data analysis, special reports, etc. shall be handled by the person designated for this task. This will be done as per the guidelines of the executive committee and shall be further evaluated.   

 7.2 Executive Committee

The university shall constitute a committee to manage the circle.

8. Funds

The YCMOU shall allocate funds for needs of the circle when and as occur, as per recommendations of the Executive Committee    

11. Privileges of the Circle members

A. The members of the circle will have the privilege of participating in the Alumni events as well as University’s events such as conferences, seminars, cultural activities that are organized by the University, on invitation.

B. The members will have the privilege to use the University’s facilities like the Library, Sports complex, Guest house (on payment), Convention halls and other facilities of the University that are available in the University on payment of certain fee as per rules and regulation of the University. (This is subject to availability)

d. The members shall be eligible to receive official publications of the YCMOU.

14. YCMOU Alumni Circle Chapters

a. The Alumni Circle shall have a chapter under every Regional Centre which will handle the local Alumni, its registration and official communications.  

18. Website

The website of the YCMOU shall have a special provision for Alumni Registration and regular communications. 

20. Office of the Circle

The office of YCMOU Alumni Circle shall be in the YCMOU campus at Nashik.
